Darryl Starbird National Rod and Custom Car Hall of Fame

Afton Oklahoma

When I was growing up and going to the car shows in London, I always used to grab a copy of Hot Rod Show World. Lots of the cars in this mag would look really dated today, but at the time custom was king! Radical body mods, whacked out paint jobs, insane engines, it was the thing to do. Without fail, there would always be a couple of cars in this magazine built by on Darryl Starbird...

Driving across I-44 one day a couple of years ago, I spotted a billboard for the Darryl Starbird National Rod and Custom Car Hall of Fame...

I had a chance to visit this place recently. While I'm glad I didn't try to get a big truck into this place, I'm also glad I got a chance to see it my last trip out. There were a number of cars I remember from the magazine, along with some others build by such builders as Ed Roth, Troy Trepannier, and Boyd Coddington. Here are some shots. Click for a bigger view.
